Lithuanian President told US VP about potential 'nuclear bomb' in Belarus


Dalia Grybauskaitė raised the issue of nuclear power plant construction in Astravets during a meeting of the Baltic States leaders in Vilnius and stated that Russia may use the Belarusian nuclear power plant as a “nonconventional weapon”.

Grybauskaite said the presence at the meeting of the US Mike Pence, Vice-President of the new Russian threat – in the Ostrovets construction area near the border with Lithuania nuclear power plant.

“The US decision on sanctions against Russia, which affects energy projects, is a strong message that indicates that the Kremlin’s attempts to use its position in the energy sector for the manipulation and interference in the politics of other countries will not be ignored,” Lithuanian press service quoted Dalia Grybauskaitė.

The first unit of the Belarusian nuclear power plant will be commissioned in 2019, the second — in 2020th.

The Belarusian NPP is being constructed on the Russian funds with the participation of Russian specialists.
