Law and overspending: Luxurious Supreme Court building for tax money


A new comfortable building is being constructed on the bank of the Svisloch in a public green space in Arlouskaya street in minsk, not far from the presidential residence. The updated city investment program includes nformation on the cost of the facility.

As of the beginning of 2019, $51 mln were spent on the would-be building of the Supreme Court. According to the financial estimate, its total value may reach $77 mln.

The project receives funding from the state budget, investors and other sources. For example, $2 mln were provided by the Iranian company Cason in exchange for Belarus’ extending the completion deadline of the Magnet of Minsk facility.

Earlier, Belsat called viewers’ attention to overspending state funds during the construction.

The emblem and the inscription on the facade – The Supreme Court of the Republic of Belarus – cost the state about $ 112,000. Given that half of the sum was paid for the emblem, the price for every letter amounted to $ 2,000. A crystal chandelier in the lobby was purchased for about $ 90,000, some art piecesfor $ 830,000 (!). There will also be VIP toilets and a fountain at the cost of $ 300,000.
