Kremlin spin doctors in search of female electoral competitor for Putin?

The Kremlin is mulling over nominating a woman who would compete with the ‘leading candidate’ in the 2018 presidential election, the Russian newspaper Vedomosti reports with reference to its own sources.

According to Vedomosti information, 5-7 candidates are being considered. There are three women among them – representatives of the Fair Russia party- the chairman of the Social Democratic Women’s Union of Russia Natalia Velikaya, leader of the National Parent-Teacher Association Irina Volynets and member of the Central Council of the party Irina Petelyaeva.

The women mentioned above have already been presidentialcandidates twice – the Kremlin spin doctors seem to be played out, the sources state.

In 2000, Ella Pamfilova participated in the presidential elections and won 1.01% of votes; now she is head of the Central Election commission. In 2004, Irina Khakamada (the Union of Right Forces) ran for the presidential post. She polled 3.84% of votes.

Russian presidential election will be held on March 18, 2018. Vladimir Putin has not officially announced whether he will run for another term.
