Kalyakin and Haidukevich nominating groups submit documents to CEC


On July 15, the CEC received applications to register nominating groups from Syarhei Kalyakin – Chairman of the Belarusian left party Fair World and Syarhei Haidukevich – Chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party. The day before, the CEC received documents for registration of the nominating group for nomination of presidential candidate Alyaksandr Lukashenka.

According to the CEC, the initiative group of Alyaksandr Lukashenka is headed by the Chairman of Federation of Trade Unions of Belarus Mikhail Orda. It included about 10.5 thousand people.

Syarhei Kalyakin‘s group is headed by the Deputy Chairman of the party Fair World, Valery Ukhnaliou, it consists of 1,513 people.

Syarhei Haidukevich‘s nominating group is headed by Anatol Hishchanka, Deputy Chairman of the LDP, the group includes 2.5 thousand persons.

Thus, currently, the CEC has received documents for registration of nominating groups of the three contenders for presidency.

In total, nine people have expressed their presidential ambitions: in addition to Alyaksandr Lukashenka, Syarhei Kalyakin and Syarhei Haidukevich they are:

Anatol Lyabedzka – Chairman of the United Civil Party;

Tatstsiana Karatkevich – an activist of the civil campaign Tell the Truth, who plans to get nominated by the coalition People’s Referendum;

Yury Radzkou – director of Tsar-miod, the author of the international project World of Honey and Health;

Uladzislau Tsitovich – CEO of Veduus, former candidate to the House of Representatives of the National Assembly in the 2012 elections;

Viktar Tsyareshchanka – economist and former presidential candidate for the 2010 elections;

Yury Shulhan – unemployed, supported by the Belarusian Green Party.

In addition, representatives of several opposition organizations created a single organizing committee for the presidential nomination of political prisoner Mikalai Statkevich.

The next presidential elections in Belarus are scheduled for October 11. Last day for submission of documents to the CEC for registration of nominating groups to nominate candidates for presidency is July 17.
