Nursultan Nazarbayev is arranging a meeting of Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelensky on the territory of Kazakhstan, nur.kz reports.
According to Nazarbayev, he wants the leaders of Ukraine and Russia to hold a one-on-one meeting with no participation of the United States, the European Union and other parties. The former president of Kazakhstan is reported to be seeking to make peace between Ukraine and Russia.
“I have already received Zelensky’s consent, the President of Russia has also been informed of the opportunity; so we will see what happens. If one needs a neutral venue, they will be welcome in Kazakhstan,” Nazarbayev said.
In his opinion, Putin is willing to be part of such a meeting, as he is striving for peace. Russia is making no claims to Ukrainian lands, Nazarbayev stressed.
On November 8, Martin Sajdik, the Special Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office in Ukraine and in the Trilateral Contact Group (TCG), announced the renewed withdrawal of forces and hardware at the disengagement area of Petrivske on 9 November 2019 at 12:00 (Kyiv time). The TCG meetings take place in Minsk.
Curiously, Belarusian President Alyaksandr Lukashenka has repeatedly offered Belarus’ assistance to deconflict the situation in Donbas. In October 2018, when making a speech at the Munich Security Conference Core Group meeting in Minsk, he stressed that Belarus was ready to take responsibility for ensuring peace in eastern regions of Ukraine and exerting control over the Russian-Ukrainian border.
He has been also pushing for Belarus’ hosting the world leaders’ meeting on the settlement of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict.
In July 2019, Volodymyr Zelensky offered Vladimir Putin to come to Minsk and discuss the issues of Crimea and Donbas, According to him, US President Donald Trump, the then UK Prime Minister Theresa May, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, French President Emmanuel Macron should also take part in the would-be summit.
