In footsteps of Petrov-Boshirov? Salisbury must-visit for Russians

The British city that has hit the headlines in 2018 seems to become a must-visit place for Russian tourists in the UK.

Salisbury fits into the route of a one-day trip London-Bath-Stonehenge, Maya Lomidze, the executive director of Russia’s Association of Tourist Operators.

“Salisbury is one of the communities on the way over. Now, after the information wave, tourists will take into consideration the opportunity to walk along the city. But of course, there some people will avoid visiting this city so that something bad would not happen to them,” she said.

However, some tourists’ reluctance leaves unchanged the fact of Salisbury’s being a hit of the season.

“If one ranks trips of those who have already arrived to London, one-day trip to Salisbury takes the first place,” Lomidze stressed.

On March 4, Sergei Skripal, 66, and his daughter Yuliya, 33, were found unconscious at a shopping mall in the English town of Salisbury. The two were taken to hospital in critical condition. The were reportedly poisoned following exposure to an unknown substance. A bit later, British Prime Minister Theresa May said they had been poisoned with Novichok, a military-grade nerve agent of a type developed by Russia. The incident caused a number of rows and triggered a diplomatic war between the West and the Kremlin.

In early September, British prosecutors said the names of two Russian citizens suspected of poisoning the Skripals were Alexander Petrov and Ruslan Boshirov. Later, Bellingcat published the results of its journalistic investigation. The OSINT platform states that the real name of ‘Ruslan Boshirov (one of thealleged poisoners) is Anatoly Chepiga. Moreover, Boshirov-Chepiga is a GRU Colonel and Hero of Russia, the journalists say.
