'I'm in' -- Ukrainian singer Vakarchuk goes into politics

The frontman of the Okean Elzy band, Svyatoslav Vakarchuk, has spoken about his political ambitions and promised to bring new people into Ukrainian politics.

He announced this on January 22 during the event “Real changes in Ukraine are a guarantee of a successful future,” Ukrainska Pravda reports.

“I’m in, and you’ll learn more soon. I would like to bring as many new people into Ukrainian politics as possible. I am not interested in power as such,” Vakarchuk said in response to the question of whether he would run in the presidential elections in Ukraine in 2019.

“What motivates me in politics is disappointment with the current state of Ukrainian politics. Looking at all these faces on billboards around Kyiv is unbearable,” Vakarchuk explained.

According to the musician, Ukraine needs new political leaders, not revolutions.

“We should not fall into Putin’s trap by raising the issue of Russian aggression in the height of the presidential campaign. The internal problems like the fight against corruption and the reform of the judicial system should be the focus of attention,” he added.

According to the “Ukrainian Truth”, Vakarchuk is not going to run for presidency. Most likely, his goal is to participate in parliamentary elections.
