‘Illegal business, fat contracts’: KGB accuses ex-minister of jobbery after Lukashenka’s strong words


Former Energy Minister Uladzimir Patupchyk fixed up his family business with fat contracts, KGB Chairman Valery Vakulchyk said on Wednesday evening.

According to him, the minister’s relatives delivered building materials to state-owned construction projects at over-inflated prices. Patupchyk did have a hand in this business, Vakulchyk stated.

Interestingly, during his recent address to the nation and Parliament, president Alyaksandr Lukashenka slammed Patupchyk’s work. Eight days later, the Belarusian State Security Committee (KGB) discovered his allegedly illegal business. On May 2, the KGB Chairman reported to the president about the violations, which resulted in Patupchyk’s being released from office.

It should be recalled that the Ministry of Energy is responsible for the construction of the Belarusian nuclear power plant in Astravets.

At the moment, the KGB in gathering and studying the information on the situation; soon it will get a legal assessment. It is not ruled out that a criminal cases will be initiated against the former minister.
