If Azerbaijan fires at Yerevan, would Belarus protect Armenia?

Armenia and Belarus are allies in the Collective Security Treaty Organization. However, Minsk sold the Polonez rocket complexes to Azerbaijan, which is in conflict with Armenia. Baku can bombard the Armenian capital with rockets from its territory.

At the General Assembly of the United Nations Nikol Pashinyan and Ilham Aliyev agreed to reduce tensions near the border of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic. The meeting of the Armenian and Azerbaijani leaders was held after Nikol Pashinyan’s visit to Moscow. In a conversation with Arkadz Nestsyarenka, recorded for the “Prosvet” program on Belsat TV, Advisor to the President of Armenia Tevan Pagasyan spoke about the relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan and the role of Belarus in resolving the Karabakh conflict.

What is the role of the official Minsk in the conflict in Karabakh? The Karabakh group is more than 20 years old, and, on the other hand, Minsk sells Polonez to Azerbaijan, and you criticize.

Not only Minsk sells, Russia also does it. Just like Israel, Turkey, Ukraine, Kazakhstan supports us in its own way … How did the Minsk Group arise? Once, the OSCE decided to create it and it had to organize the Minsk Conference. There were fourteen countries. But at one time, it became clear that it is difficult to carry out with fourteen countries, so the institution of co-chairs was created. Russia received the status of a permanent member, and each of these fourteen members annually had a rotation. There were Italians, Finns, Norwegians, Germans, and when the time was right for the French, Azerbaijan said that, France always supports Armenia. Therefore, we decided that the three countries will remain on a permanent basis as co-chairs and they will hold a conference. Those were Russia, USA, France.

And the Minsk Group in fact came out of this format, since the documents should lead to them doing something, going to Minsk under the auspices of these fourteen countries and holding a conference. Even if this happens, then it will take place a couple of generations later, when the hatred goes away and they find solutions. The parties are not ready as long as they only buy weapons.

I cannot believe that Azerbaijan bought such a huge amount of weapons for such money so that it rusted in warehouses. Sooner or later they will use it, and we must be prepared. And the most painful is when a country that is part of this entity, especially a country that is together with you in the CSTO.

On the one hand, if they shoot from this weapon, who would it be? Armenians? The same Armenians live in Karabakh. Do you think if Azerbaijan seizes Karabakh, it will destroy it and stop at the border with Armenia? Aliyev described his dream that they would be in Yerevan, Yerevan is “their city”. That is, they will be in Armenia, and what will the allies of collective security do? If they shoot, they will shoot in Yerevan too. Will you come to protect us? It is a strange union.

If Australia were selling weapons, this is understandable, there can be business and political interests. If allies sell it, they don’t simply buy weapons. I have never seen NATO countries vote against each other or sell weapons that would later be used against each other.
