I am ardent supporter of EU in spite of sanctions - Lukashenka

On December 3, Alyaksandr Lukashenka held talks with Serbian President Alexander Vucic. The meeting took place in Belgrade.

According to the Belarusian leader, he is in favour of the preservation and existence of the European Union.

I am resolutely against the disintegration of the European Union, which has imposed sanctions against Belarus. The European Union is one of the most powerful pillars of the world. If you pull it out, the system will not just become unstable. It can collapse. This is why I want to see the European Union intact,” state-run news agency BelTA quotes Alyaksandr Lukashenka.

Belarus respects Serbia’s intention to join the European Union and wishes the country to make its way to the bloc, the Belarusian leader stressed. The accession of Serbia to the EU has been on the agenda since 2011.

Belgrade is currently hosting the Belarusian-Serbian business forum; a number of contracts and agreements are expected to be signed at the event.
