Hurricane from Romania came to Belarus: fallen trees, damaged roofs and power outages


The “Thomas” cyclone has left behind flooded yards, fallen trees, torn off roofs and damaged cars. No casualties have been reported.

A strong wind, which reached 23 m/s (in Navahradak) cut power in 715 localities. Currently, Vitsebsk, Homiel, Minsk and Mahiliou regions are under reconstruction, with 41 village remaining without electricity.

Most of the “Thomas” damage was done in the Vitsebsk region. Sharkaushchyna had one-third of the monthly amount of precipitation fall there over several hours, while in Braslau – the amount was close to the monthly level. Many streets were flooded.

Emergency Situations Ministry workers and other urban services are dealing with the aftermath of flooding.

On September 18, the hurricane from Romania, which killed 8 people, came to Ukraine.
