Hrodna residents told to pay for nonexistent elevator

State television has reported on “gross violations” of public utilities service.

Residents of the three five-storey buildings in Hrodna received bills for the use of lifts, which they never had.

Among them – the family of Romuald Zelenkevich. Romuald is joking that now he is waiting for public utilities service to install the elevator after billing for it.

The communal service is blaming the mistake in the equipment and promises to rectify the situation: to recalculate the bills and return the money.

According to the TV channel “Belarus 1” in the Brest and Hrodna regions alone the miscalculations “pulled” from the pockets of residents more than 3.5 billion rubles.

Recalculation will be conducted, but at the same time we must understand that the people themselves have to invest in public infrastructure, warned state television.

According to the concept of the government, at the end of 2016, the population will pay 50% of the price of utility bills. At the end of 2017 – 75%, and at the end of 2018 – 100%. As a result, utility bills will rise 1.5-2 times, TV channel “Belarus 1” reports.
