Homiel says goodbye to Alyaksandr Vikhor who died due to police brutality


Alyaksandr Vikhor died on August 11. Today in Homel he was taken on his last journey. He was the second person whose death was officially confirmed during the protests in Belarus. The death certificate of Alyaksandr Vikhor says: the cause of death not yet established.

Alyaksandr Vikhor had a funeral service in Mikhailauski church in Kastyukouka. Thousands of people came there.

Alyaksandr’s mother, Svyatlana Vikhor, emotionally addressed the audience: “Those who were near her son asked to help him. But nobody did! He could not stay there, he was suffocating there! Those who were close to him, please contact us. We have to prove that my child did not die. My son was murdered! I want those who tortured him to be punished!”

Syarhei Shoman from Homel came to say goodbye to Alyaksandr. He was also detained during the protests and states that he was with Sasha after the trial in the same car. He says that the victim was not feeling well, tried to get out and called for his mother. During the transfer, the car was sprayed with pepper gas. “He was hysterical, but the policemen did not react. Sasha was the last one out of the car”, said Syarhei Shoman.

The funeral organizers reported that the traffic police were turning around buses with people going from Homel to the funeral in Kostyukouka.

Alyaksandr Vikhor became the second person, whose death was officially confirmed during the protests in Belarus. The first man was Alyaksandr Taraikouski. He died in Minsk on August 10, and the funeral service took place on August 15.
