Homiel: Belsat TV contributor Larysa Shchyrakova detained again

On Friday, Homiel-based journalist Larysa Shchyrakova reported her being detained on Facebook.

She also posted a photo of a traffic police officer who stopped her car. Presumably, the journalist was taken to Navabelitski district police station.

It is the fourth time that the police have detained Larysa Shchyrakova in the wake of the 2020 presidential election. She was charged with participating in unauthorised mass eventы under the notorious Article 23.34 of the Code of Administrative Offenses and repeatedly fined. It should be noted that she was present at demonstrations in Homiel as a journalist and performed her professional duties. In early September, the policemen threatened Larysa (who is a single mother) to take her minor son away and place him in an orphanage.

Commenting on the detention, local journalists have suggested that the authorities apparently aim at preventing media workers from covering weekend’s protest rallies.
