Historian Bulavinskaya subpoenaed by prosecutor's office


Homiel police are coming for the historian Maryia Bulavinskaya.

Homiel historian Maryia Bulavinskaya has received a morning phone call from the police station to tell her that they were going to her place “to give the subpoena”.

Maryia does not know the reasons for such attention on the part of police officers.

“I think they want to intimidate all active people, said Bulavinskaya.

Maryia is a historian and social activist, she promotes the history of Homiel and the Belarusian language, develops local regional studies. As a student, she was a member ogf the historical and cross-cultural community “Vakolista”, together with her friends she organized trips around Belarus, filmed historical and natural history films. She collaborates with “Belsat”.

In 2013-2015, Maryia Bulavinskaya headed the Homiel branch of the Belarusian Language Society.

Almost simultaneously, the police called her husband, an architect and local historian Syarhei Lyapin with a request to come to another police station “to talk”.

The subpoena had an invitation to the prosecutor’s office.

Maryia and Syarhei are rearing a two-year old daughter.
