High treason? Ukraine’s Security service searching Russia’s Yandex offices


The Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) is conducting searches at two offices of Yandex-Ukraine, the daughter of Russia’s Yandex company on Monday.

Searches are being conducted at the offices in Kyiv and Odesa as part of the criminal proceedings on high treason, SBU spokesperson Olena Hitlianska told Interfax-Ukraine agency.

The details of the case have not been reported yet.

As reported earlier, Ukrainian president Petro Poroshenko authorized extending and introducing sanctions against Russia, which includes the blocking of access to Russian media outlets and social networks.

Since May 16, the assess to Russian social media Vkontakte (vk.ru), Odnoklassniki (ok.ru) and most services of Yandex group has been denied in Ukraine. Moreover, the country’s Internet providers have been obliged to block access to Russia’s  e-mail service mail.ru,  anti-virus software developers Kaspersky Lab and DrWeb and 1C accounting software developer. The sanctions were also imposed against TV companies TV Center, RBC, NTV Plus, Zvezda, TNT, Moscow Media, Rossiya Segodnya, REN TV and others.

Moreover, 467 legal entities and 1,228 individuals are put on the black list. The ban will be binding for three years.
