Hallo Moskau: German citizen goes by tractor through Belarus to 2018 World Cup Russia

When a 70-year-old German citizen driving a tractor crossed the EU-Belarus border, he became a local celebrity. Lanz Bulldog is one of the most popular German tractors. Its modifications were produced in 1921-1960.

On June 4, a reader sent the video above to ABW news website. It was filmed at the Berastavitsa checkpoint; the German driver is heading to Russia that hosts the FIFA World Cup in 2018.

The man is travelling with a dog. The trailer that resembles a giant beer keg is a house on wheels with a solar cell on the roof.

Later, Belarusians took pictures with the German tractor driver in different places of Belarus – mainly at gas stations.

One can see the owner of the rare tractor in the video filmed by Alyaksandr Labachou. According to the author, the German citizen was stopped at the border. The traffic police did not know what to do with him as the tractor ‘is not a car’. The man was also asked to buy a BelToll device for paying rates.

The German fan said he was going to visit Minsk and then get to Moscow within ten days.

A Belarusian trucker, who is now in Russia, asked on the radio all those who would meet this unusial traveller ‘to help him if he needed anything on the way’.
