German farmers want seasonal workers from Belarus

The German Association of Asparagus and Berry Farms calls for the opening of the country’s working market for seasonal workers from countries outside the European Union like Belarus and Ukraine, Norddeutscher Rundfunk reports.

The reason for this is that nowadays fewer workers from Poland and Romania come to German asparagus farms for harvesting.

The reduction in workers from these countries is associated with economic growth and an increase in the number of jobs in the home country, as well as with the Family 500+ program, which improved the financial situation of Polish families.

Also, the reduction of the number of seasonal workers on farms is affected by the transition of German-speaking people to other areas — construction sites, logistics centers or postal services.
