General Anders' daughter to visit Minsk


On April 9, Anna Maria Anders, authorized in international dialogue by the Office of the Chairman of the Polish Council of Ministers Chairman Office will visit Minsk.

The purpose of the visit is to discuss with the representatives of Belarusian institutions working in the field of history the intensification of Polish-Belarusian historical dialogue. The visit is a continuation of the talks on this issue that started in March in Minsk by the the head of the Polish diplomatic agency Witold Waszczykowski, the Polish Embassy in Minsk reports.

Anna Maria Anders is the daughter of the Polish Army General Władysław Anders who participated in the September campaign of 1939 and earlier commanded a cavalry brigade in Navahrudak and garrison in Baranavichy. After the entry of Soviet troops on the territory of Poland on September 17, 1939, General Anders was arrested and spent 22 months in the NKVD prisons in Lviv and Moscow.

Anna Maria Anders will lay flowers on the graves of victims of Stalin’s repressions in Kurapaty.

On April 10, she will go from Minsk to Katyn and Smolensk, which she will honor the victims of the Katyn crime and the 6th anniversary of the plane crash in Smolensk that killed Polish President Lech Kaczynski and nearly a hundred other senior government officials of Poland.
