GDP is growing, but not living standards of Belarusians

In the first quarter of 2017 Belarus’ GDP grew by 0.3%. Belsat correspondent went to the streets of Minsk to ask people if they felt the difference.

“Why has the GDP increased? We export almost no products. Warehouses are full,” said a resident of the capital.

“I was fired from work, because I’m retired, and my pension is small. I did not feel the growth,” the woman said.

“I think that this year the economy grew due to the dollar’s decline after Trumps’ victory,” said a citizen of Minsk.

In 2015, the Belarusian GDP fell by 3.9% after rising 1.6% in 2014.

This is how the Belarusian GDP looks against the background of the same indicator of our neighbors, the United States, and Canada.
