Tell the Truth civil campaign alleges stuffing with 12K sham ballots in Minsk

The parliamentary election in precinct Nr 97 in Minsk did not take place, ‘Tell the Truth’ civil campaign states in its report.

At this precinct, co-chair of ‘Tell The Truth’ Tatsiana Karatkevich and United Civic Party representative Hanna Kanapatskaya were standing as parliamentary candidates. Surprisingly, the latter woman entered the House of Representatives.

Tell the Truth representatives monitored the election process at all 29 polling stations. In accordance with the data collected, only 40.6% of voters cast their ballots. After 12,000 sham ballots were stuffed, the official turnout reached 59.7%, the campaigners state.

Only at three of the 29 polling stations there was an opened and transparent vote count, observers say. Five trustees were removed from the polling stations; three election observers were forced to withdraw from observation due to pressure at work or universities.

According to official data, Hanna Kanapatskaya won the election at precinct Nr 97 (23.7%). Her competitors were Tatsiana Karatkevich (14.4%) and Alyaksandr Drozhzha, the director of the railway station ‘Minsk-Pasazhyrski’ (21%). Independent media called the latter a pro-regime candidate and the most probable winner.
