Russian Foreign Ministry canteen renames Chicken Kiev as Chicken Crimea

The Russian Foreign Ministry canteen calls Chicken Kiev, a well-known meat course that appeared in the XIXth century, as Chicken Crimea, NYT journalist Ivan Nechepurenko said on Twitter.

Soon after the annexation of Crimea known time-honoured dishes and food products began to get new names in Russia. For example, usual hamburgers started to be sold as ‘CrimeaBurgers’ in occupied Crimea. After that, the name spread throughout Russia.

In numerous Russian cafes patriotic citizens can order Russiano coffee – a substitute for Americano.

On February 15, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova commented on White House spokesman Sean Spicer’s statement that Donald Trump ‘made it very clear that he expects the Russian government to de-escalate the violence in Ukraine and return Crimea.”

“We do not give our territories away. Crimea is a territory of the Russian Federation,” she said.
