A number of independent media outlets reported Tuesday that Belarusian biathlete and three-time Olympic champion Darya Domracheva is a senior lieutenant of the State Security Committee (KGB).
The journalists referred to the short biography of the biathlete published on the website of the Belarusian sports association Dynamo.
A bit later the information was removed from the website as ‘outdated’.
“Domracheva had worked for the KGB until June 2014 , but at the moment Darya is not an employee of the Committee,” Dzmitry Pabyarzhyn, the KGB spokesman, told Naviny.by.
He refused to say what rank Domracheva used to have and why she decided to leave the KGB.
When asked which of other famous Belarusian athletes serve in the KGB, Dzmitry Pabyarzhyn said: “Unfortunately, we cannot disclose such information.”
As reported before, Darya Domracheva is expecting a baby with Norwegian sports star Ole Einar Bjørndalen.
