‘Forced labour’: Human rights defender about Interior Minister’s initiative

A specialized agricultural enterprise may be established as part of the ministry’s criminal and executive system in order to employ former prisoners, Belarusian Interior Minister Ihar Shunevich announced on Tuesday.

Agricultural unit Farm-Agro located in Svetlahorsk district has been chosen as an experimental facility.

“This is a disguised form of forced labour,” says human rights activist and former investigator Aleh Vouchak.

The human rights activist also recalled that such practice was used in the Russian Empire and the USSR.

“No good will come out of it,” Vouchak warned.

The former investigator also suggested that the Interior Minister was inspired by the so-called decree on parasites and now he is demonstrating his activity in the fight against unemployment.

“Shunevich is a dependent figure. He did not develop the idea on his own,” Vouchak stressed.
