For love of hockey: Lukashenka gets perfect gift from Uzbek president

Shavkat Mirziyoyev has presented an unusual gift to his Belarusian counterpart Alyaksandr Lukashenka.

Uzbekistan’s leader arrived in Belarus on Wednesday. He took part in official ceremonies and visited Alyaksandr Lukashenka and his son Kolya in the presidential residence near Minsk.

The state-run TV station ONT aired a news story about a warm welcome and a ‘free and easy’ meeting. In addition, viewers had an opportunity to check out the gifts which the guest and the host exchanged.

The president of Uzbekistan got a vyshyvanka (Belarusian traditional clothing which contains elements of ethnic embroidery), a statue of a bison and a decorative kilim. The Belarusian president was given a figure of himself equipped as a hockey player, with a helmet on the head and a stick in the hand. On his back, there is the inscription ‘A. Lukashenko’ and the number ’01’.

The Belarusian leader is known for his love of ice hockey.
