FM Lavrov: Russia, Belarus will sign agreement on visa issuing regime soon

Russia and Belarus will soon sign an agreement on a uniform procedure for issuing visas, which is to make crossing the Russia-Belarus border by citizens of third countries easier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on February, 21.

At Thursday’s meeting with diplomats and European businessmen, Sergei Lavrov pointed out that Russia and Belarus had completed the preparation of the agreement at the end of 2018.

“It is about to be signed,” he announced.

According to the minister, such step should help solve the issue of third-country nationals’ crossing the border between the two states.

“However, the matter will be clenched when we sign an agreement on establishing single visa space. It is also being discussed, but one still needs time to adopt it,” Lavrov said.

The acute question was raised by Włodzimierz Marciniak, Poland’s Ambassador in Moscow. The diplomat stressed that he had constantly trying to draw Moscow’s attention to the problem.
