First ‘quarantine redemption’ lawsuit in Russia

It is the first time that a criminal case has been filed against a man who fled the coronavirus quarantine in Russia, news agency Interfax reports.

A 32-year-old resident escaped from the Zarya boarding house in the village of Repino on March, 27. Earlier, the man was forcibly taken there and placed under quarantine after travelling abroad. The boarding house was specially equipped for keeping citizens with suspected COVID-19 in isolation.

The man is charged with an attempt to violate the sanitary and epidemiological rules (Art. 30 and 236 of Russia’s Criminal Code). The local police are in search of the fugitive; when he is detained, the policemen will define the persons whom he contacted with. They might be subjected to self-isolation as well.

The number of coronavirus cases in Russia grew by 302 in the past 24 hours, reaching 1,836, the Coronavirus Response Centre said in a statement on Monday.
