First coronavirus death in Poland


A Polish citizen infected with COVID-19 has passed away in hospital in the city of Poznan, Gazeta Wyborcza reports. When hospitalised, she was in critical condition.

“The 57-year-old woman died at noon on Thursday,” Witold Draber, director of the local sanitary and epidemiological service, said.

According to the doctors, she is the first person to have died of COVID-19 in Poland.

The woman was taken to hospital on March, 8. At first, she was tested negative for the novel coronavirus, but the retest turned out to be positive. The deceased person suffered from chronic illnesses, the local media stress.

Three new coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Poland on Thursday morning, bringing the total number of infections to 47, the Polish Press Agency reports.
