First case: Coronavirus patient dies in Russia


On Thursday morning, the crisis centre in Moscow reported the death of a person who was previously tested positive for COVID-19.

The 79-year-old woman who suffered from number of chronic diseases was hospitalised on March, 13.

(UPD at 13:40) The autopsy has shown that the death was caused by thrombus detachment, not pneumonia, the centre says on Telegram.

“By the moment, the persons whom the patient had contact with have been identified, all of them are under medical supervision. No one have severe symptoms of the disease, ” the statement reads.

Meanwhile, the number of coronavirus cases in Russia rose by 52 in the past 24 hours, reaching 199, the Coronavirus Control and Prevention Centre said on March, 19.

“A total of 52 coronavirus cases were recorded in 23 Russian regions in the past 24 hours,” news agency TASS quotes the officials.

On March 18, Russia introduced temporary restrictions on the entry of foreign citizens to the Russian Federation, including citizens of the Republic of Belarus, to counter the further spread of COVID-19.

The measures are expected to be in force till May, 1. The directive, however, provides for exceptions for some categories of people working in Russia: employees of diplomatic missions and consular offices, members of official delegations, aircraft, ship and boat crews, and international railway train crews, as well as persons that permanently reside in the Russian Federation or those planning to attend the funeral of a close relative.

According to the newly-adopted directive, all people arriving in Russia from abroad will be required to undergo a two-week self-isolation, starting from the day of arrival.
