The famous Belarusian figure, US citizen, Barys Kit, died at the age of 107 on February 1 in the Frankfurt am Main.
Radio Liberty learned about the death of Barys Kit from his wife Tamara Kazevich.
He was in a very bad state last days, he was in severe pain, he no longer wanted to live,” said Tamara Kazevich.
Barys Kit will be buried at the Orthodox cemetery in the German city of Wiesbaden, where he bought the plot for himself about 30 years ago. The date of the funeral is still unknown, as the relatives are now performing the necessary formalities.
Barys Kit was born on April 6, 1910 to a Belarusian family living in St. Petersburg. After the revolution, he went to his father’s homeland in Aharodniki village, Karelichy district, graduated from the Navahrudak Belarusian Gymnasium, Vilnius University. By education he was a teacher, he worked as a director of the Vilnius and Navahrudak gymnasiums. After the war, he emigrated to the United States, where he realized himself as a scientist, making a significant contribution to world astronautics.
