Ex-prime minister of unrecognised Donetsk republic: There's no 'Novorossiya', but a false start

Alexander Borodai, a former ‘prime minister’ of the self-proclaimed Donetsk people’s republic, and Igor ‘Bes’ Bezler, a notorious terrorist, have declared that such state formation as ‘Novorossiya’ (New Russia) does not exist. At that, they will never stop dreaming of bringing this project to life.

“There is no Novorossiya. We all do use this term, but frankly speaking, it is a false start. Novorossiya is an idea, a dream, let’s put it that way. This is the idea that wasn’t brought to life due to a number of objective conditions,” Borodai said. His opinion was tacitly backed by Igor Bezler.

“Yes, Russia’s Crimea does exist. That is what has been done over the last year. There is Russia’s Crimea, the Donetsk People’s Republic and the Luhansk People’s Republic. These republics take up not much of Donetsk and Luhansk regions. In fact, these republics are the bridgeheads for founding a future Novorossiya. From a personal perspective, taking into account the world crisis, taking into account the fact that the whole world, or rather the West with its organisational and financial resources, supports the united Ukraine and is against Russia, I cannot say whether this project will be implemented.”

“But the dream is still alive. And I hope we are able to turn it into reality,” Borodai said.

About 5,000 persons have killed since the conflict in eastern Ukraine started. Over 10,000 have been injured and mutilated.

Alexander Borodai, a citizen of Russia, was appointed to the post of prime minister by the republic’s self-proclaimed Supreme Council on May 16, 2014. But in August he announced his resignation in a move aimed at dampening claims that the rebellion in eastern Ukraine is being masterminded by Moscow.

Igor Bezler aka Bes (Demon) was born in 1965 in Simferopol. In 1994-97 he studied at the Military Academy named after Dzerzhinsky. According to Ukraine’s Security Service, he is a lieutenant colonel at Russia’s Chief Intelligence Directorate (GRU). Bezler is implicated in the murder of Horlivka City councilman Volodymyr Rybak.
