Ex-activist of Belarusian Youth Union gets 6 years in prison for fraud

A Minsk court has sentenced former activist of the Belarusian Republican Youth Union Artsyom Maseichuk to 6 years imprisonment in a penal colony with property confiscation and a fine of 61,250 BYN for illegal business activities and fraud.

According to the prosecution, Maseichuk in 2015-2016 was the head of the Belarusian branch of the company Kairos Technologies, which was involved in “illegal fund raising of the population” but de facto was a financial pyramid.

Law enforcers note that the network structure of Masejchuk consisted of 108 investors, the total income was over 320,000 BYN.

At the trial, the 25-year-old Artsyom Maseichuk did not plead guilty, TUT.by writes.

“The President of the Republic of Belarus, Alyaksandr Lukashenka, has repeated told the heads of departments, that one should not evaluate their work in terms of the number of imprisoned businessmen and entrepreneurs,” Maseichuk said in the last word. “Decree No. 7 was issued on the development of entrepreneurship. But some employees of the Department of Financial Investigations and the IC are sabotaging the implementation of this document and continue to imprison guilty and innocent businessmen. While in custody in the pre-trial detention center, I was consistently proving my innocence. But they refused to listen to me and continued to press me to confess to untruth. ”

Lawyers said at the trial that Maseichuk was charged with receiving monetary sums, to which he had no relation.
