EU to consider visa free regime with Ukraine in March or June

Heads of EU foreign ministries will consider having a visa-free regime with Ukraine in March or June, depending on the speed of implementation of the necessary reforms.

This was stated by Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine on European Integration Elena Zerkal in the broadcast of Channel 5.

“On how quickly we will be able to convince the Ministers of Justice and Home Affairs of the European Union …, depends whether the Council (of EU – ed.) will consider this issue – in March or June,” – said the Ukrainian official. According to her, the Ukrainian side has fulfilled the requirements of the EU and continues to improve the legislation, and this process is irreversible.

It is known that one of the conditions which Ukraine undertook to introduce visa-free regime is the introduction of electronic declaration by officials of all of their assets, but on 4 January it was announced that the budget law had an amendment introduced, which postpones this measure until 2017. In turn, the government said they did not file the document with this measure and do not know who put it there.

The next day, a bill to repeal the amendment to the budget was introduced into the Verkhovna Rada.
