EU promised to abolish visas for Georgia

According to the European Commission representative, Georgia has fulfilled conditions for visa liberalization.

Visa-free regime will take effect starting from October 2016. This was announced during an international conference in Batumi by the representative of the Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy & Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn.

In June, Foreign Affairs Ministers of the Nordic countries, the Baltic and Visegrad countries spoke of the need to immediately introduce visa-free travel to the EU for citizens of Ukraine and Georgia.

On April 20, the European Commission has proposed to move to the final stage of visa liberalization between the EU and Ukraine.

The procedure for preparation and review of relevant documents by the European Parliament can take up to 30 days. After approval in the EP the document is to be approved by the EU Council. The decision to introduce visa-free regime between Ukraine and the EU can enter into force in the summer.
