EU increases financial support to Belarus

EU is set to double its financial support to our country.

This is what Head of the EU Delegation in Belarus Andrea Victorine told journalists in Minsk on Thursday.

On Thursday, in Minsk “Renaissance” hotel was signed a memorandum of understanding between the United Nations Development Programme and the executive committees of 30 pilot districts which won in the joint EU and UNDP “Promoting local development in Belarus” competition.

According to Victorine, this year the EU will provide Belarus with 29 million euros. The funds will be spent on solving problems related to migration, regional development and economic development of the country as a whole.

“The final size of the sum is still being discussed. The main thing is not numbers but the setting up of cooperation between local authorities, civil society and other partners for the sustainable development of the regions. It is also important to develop an initiative from below,” said Andrea Victorine.

At the end of 2016 – early 2017 will be held the largest competition of local initiatives in which each district will be able to receive up to 70 thousand euros to solve local problems, the press service of the UN Office reported earlier.
