Escalation in Donbas: Russian troops take charge of Horlivka

A large group of Russian soldiers in unmarked, winter combat gear has arrived in the town of Horlivka (Donetsk region), Dmytro Tymchuk, head of the Information Resistance group, wrote on Facebook on Friday.

“In Horlivka, a fresh formation of Russian troops (up to 300 men) has taken control of the city,” Tymchuk said. “The soldiers arriving were dressed in new camouflage uniforms, unmarked, well-equipped and well-armed.”

Since the arrival of the Russians in the town, the number of local fighters has fallen sharply, UNIAN reports.

According to Dmytro Tymchuk, Russian terrorist troops have again started moving to the front positions of the Ukrainian army in the ATO zone. The detachments of Russian terrorist troops have again moved to the Ukrainian army’s front line near Volnovakha and Mykolaivka, censor.net reports

“Two new detachments of the enemy were noticed, with the total number of people up to 200, and with six units of armored vehicles. Active intelligence was also noted in the area, including drones and sabotage reconnaissance groups of the enemy,” Tymchuk announced.

The representatives of the unrecognised Luhansk people’s republic have resumed their fire aggression against Ukrainian-controlled territory, Luhansk governor Hennadiy Moskal reports.

“Over the past day, Jan. 1, and in the night, there were nine cases of shelling in the Luhansk region from artillery, “Grad” MLRSes, mortarts, grenade machine guns, and small arms. The village of Chornukhyne of Popasna district suffered the most, being shelled for four times during the day. Several houses were damaged,” the official said on his website.

According to Moskal, the city of Popasna was shelled for five times from mortars, no damages to infrastructure; the city of Hirske was shelled after 6 p.m. from artillery, no casualties; and the village of Zolote was shelled as well.

On December, 31 four Russian contract marines were killed near Donetsk, Dmytro Tymchuk states.

Russia is still in denial over its troops fighting in Ukraine.
