Education Minister wants to limit schoolchildren's access to mobile phones


Education Minister Ihar Karpenka has offered to restrict the use of mobile phones in Belarusian schools, BelTA informs.

On 25 February Minister met with members of the Permanent Commission for Education, Culture and Science of the House of Representatives. According to Mr Karpenko, the Ministry of Education in cooperation with the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Emergency Situations have developed documents on ensuring the safety of students in educational institutions. Among other things, it will touch upon “safety behavior on the Internet.”

There will be approved a list of items and substances, which the students will not be able to store and use. There are also plans to implement other security measures, said the Minister of Education. For example, there will appear the Republican center of psychological care.

The Ministry of Education paid particular attention to security in schools after a tragic accident in Stoubtsy where the teacher and student were killed in the school. Then, Lukashenka said that schools lacked order and promised to hold the Minister of Education responsible for it. As a result, Karpenka received a reprimand.
