Editors of independent media want to speak on state TV

The letter asking for the opportunity to speak in the “Editors’ Club” on the Belarusian TV was signed by the chief editor of the portal Tut.by Maryna Zolatava, chief editor of “Nasha Niva” Andrei Dynko, chief editor of “Narodnaya Volya” Svyatlana Kalinkina, editor in chief of the online newspaper “Salidanast” Alyaksandr Starykevich and chairman of the Belarusian Association of journalists Andrei Bastunets.[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”109451″ img_size=”large”][vc_column_text]In the letter, the representatives of the media outlets are paying attention to the fact that in the “Editors’ Club” of February 7 journalists of non-state media were repeatedly mentioned in a negative light with the use of the worst type of aggressive propaganda: the division into “us” and “them”, labeling, general undermining of “those who do not support the government’s position” and so on.

However, in the program, the chief editor of “SB. Belarus Today” Pavel Yakubovich urged to hold discussions of the freedom of expression with the participation of all interested parties: the representatives of the Belarusian Association of Journalists and the Belarusian Union of Journalists, representatives of state and non-state media, the civil servants.

“We are ready for dialogue, for a public dialogue, but are you ready for this? If you are, then we are ready to take part in the “Editors’ Club” to express our point of view, both on specific issues, which were discussed in the last two editions, and on the role and place of the media in today’s society,” the statement says.

Address to the Belteleradiocompany head Heandz Davydzka was sent by registered mail.
