Druzhba pipeline contaminated over 'lack of discipline in Russia'

Belarus is yet to announce the amount of damage from contaminated oil in “Druzhba” pipeline, Alyaksandr Lukashenka declared on May 11, answering journalists’ questions, belta.by writes.

The head of Belarus stressed that he is extremely negative about what happened.

“Due to the lack of discipline on the territory of Russia the huge pipe was contaminated with oil. Within a week, even the pipe through which oil is pumped, is destroyed by up to 4-5 mm, experts say. As for the specific amount of damage, it is still unknown, but it is obvious that it will be very high. I can’t say this amount right now. It will finally be known after we examine what happened at the Navapolatsk refinery, and now we are calculating losses,” Lukashenka explained.

The oil pollution in the Druzhba pipeline was called deliberate by Transneft – a criminal case was opened in Russia.

Due to poor-quality oil in Druzhba, Poland suspended the reception of Russian “black gold”.

Oil in Druzhba was polluted shortly after Lukashenka threatened Moscow to close the pipeline for repairs in response to Russia’s blocking imports of Belarusian products.
