‘Directors should be in jail!’ Lukashenka forbids to support lossmaking companies

Belarusian president Alyaksandr Lukashenka held a government session with the economic bloc on Tuesday.

In the course of the event, the Belarusian leader instructed the officials to discontinue subsidizing lossmaking enterprises

“I want to remind you that there should not be any indulgence. And please stop making proposals concerning the enterprises that failed to stand by to their promises. Only after the directors of such enterprises land up in prison, we will consider these proposals for the second and third time. Right now the directors feel fine. They failed to follow up on their words, they did not return money to the budget or investors, and now the state should pay off their debts. These practices should have been stopped long ago,” Lukashenka said.

It should be recalled that that the International Monetary Fund repeatedly urged the Belarusian government to carry out economic reforms which would affect disadvantaged state enterprises.
