Different climate -- Lukashenka comments on death in Vitsebsk


On 31 March, Alyaksandr Lukashenka held a working meeting with Chairperson of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly Natallia Kachanava.

According to the press service of the President of Belarus, the meeting focused on the upcoming presidential elections, the situation in the economy and “measures to combat the spread of COVID-19.

Lukashenka’s telegram channel quotes the President of Belarus from this meeting:

“You’re a person of courage. You’re a soldier who even at weekends worked in the difficult region, your native region. I’m not saying there’s a disaster, no. It’s just that the Vitsebsk region is always different and the climate is different, and this peak of morbidity has shifted a bit. Today the Healthcare Minister works there; I sent specialists him and experts there to pay attention, analyze and draw conclusions,” Lukashenka said.

On March 31, it became known about the first death from SARS-CoV – 2 in Belarus. The victim was an actor of Vitsebsk Theater.

On March 30, director of the Vitsebsk Theater, where the actor worked, said that 11 actors of the National Drama Theater named after Yakub Kolas were on sick leave.

On March 29, blogger NEXTA reported that the Interior Ministry had banned police from leaving and visiting the Vitsebsk region.

Vitsebsk hospitals are overcrowded, local residents said.

As of 14:00 on March 30, 152 cases of coronavirus infection were confirmed in Belarus.
