Detained political strategist Shklyarau says his prosecution politically motivated

Vitaly Shklyarau, a political technologist, was detained on July 29 in Homiel. He is sure that he is being persecuted for political reasons, TUT.BY writes.

His lawyer Anton Hashynski, who visited his client recently, told TUT.by:

“Vitaly looks depressed, he is sure that he was detained illegally, and what he was accused of is outrageous. He considers himself a victim of the articles he wrote — it’s an obvious political persecution. In fact, he is the first political technologist who is persecuted for his comments,” said the lawyer.

Hashynski also said that Shklyarau had already been transferred from one cell to another several times, and he ended up there with people, already convicted of crimes.

The political technologist says that he did not interact with Syarhei Tsikhanouski in any way, did not “mobilize” anyone and did not “coordinate” anything. Moreover, he wasn’t in Belarus at the time of those events.

Shklyarau is a suspect in the “Tsikhanouski case”.

He was detained on July 29. Later in the evening news on ONT TV channel it was reported that he had mobilized the protest electorate of Syarhei Tsikhanouski around him. On July 31, he was left in detention for further investigation.

Vitaly Shklyarau was born in Homiel, the hometown of Syarhei Tsikhanouski. He studied in Germany, worked in the election campaigns of Angela Merkel, Barack Obama, Bernie Sanders.

Shklyarau was ascribed cooperation with Tsikhanouski, but his headquarters denies this information.
