Czech football manager brushes over Viktar Lukashenka’s business interests

Czech Marcel Licka, who sparked FC Dynamo Brest to the victory during the championship of Belarus, told lidovky.cz about the club owner Alyaksandr Zaitsau’s ties to the Lukashenka family.

According to him, Zaitsau is very close to Viktar Lukashenka, the eldest son of the Belarusian leader.

“They must be doing some business together. He seems to achieve great success in what he does. His business is at play in the United Arab Emirates, China and other countries,” Licka stressed.

“He was like honorary president, but he came to us only once, and the visit lasted only one day and a half. It was more a marketing PR stunt, but the FC became terribly cognizable. Suddenly we got s hundreds of messages; a lot of people from the Czech Republic, Poland, France called me and asked what was going on, i.e. whether Maradona had lost his mind when taking a decision to to go to Belarus,” the Czech professional said.

At the beginning of 2018, Marcel Licka was invited to act as an assistant coach at FC Dynamo Brest. Six months later, he became the acting head coach; in 2019, he was appointed head coach. Under his leadership, the team won the Super Bowl of Belarus and became the champion of the country for the first time. However, Dynamo Brest failed to renew the contract with Czech specialist for the next season.
