Eighty-seven countries have submitted films for consideration in the Foreign Language Film category for the 91st Academy Awards. Crystal Swan by Belarusian film director Darya Zhuk is on the list of the 2018 submissions.

Representatives of the two neighbouring countries – Russia (Sobibor by Konstantin Khabensky) and Ukraine (Donbass by Sergei Loznitsa) – have also entered the contest.

A short list of 5-6 contenders for the 91st Academy Awards will be announced on January 22, 2019. The 91st Oscars will be held on February 24 in Hollywood.

The story is set in the 90s in Belarus. A young DJ girl wants to go to the United States, but she makes a mistake in the visa application. Not to lose another chance, she has to spend a week in a small industrial town. The film focuses on the turbulent 90s: underground parties, pop-up mini markets, getting stuck in backwater and young people’s dream of emigration.
