Court orders liquidation of organisation Navalny uses to run his presidential campaign


A Moscow court ordered the liquidation of Fifth Season, the nonprofit organisation opposition politician Alexei Navalny has used to run his presidential campaign.

Russia’s Justice ministry claims that Fifth Season broke Russia’s privacy laws anf violated its own charter when being involved in Navalny’s campaign, meduza.io reports.

The team denies the allegations and promises to appeal the decision.In addition to other activities, Fifth Season made contracts for premises lease for Navalny’s campaign offices in different cities and paid for printing campaign materials. Its workers were officially taken on the staff.

Alexei Navalny opened offices throughout Russia as part of the presidential nominating campaign. But in late December 2017, Russia’s Central Election Commission refused to register him as a candidate. Navalny blasted the decision and called for a boycott of the elections and declared that the offices would become the headquarters of ‘national voters’ boycott’.
