Coronavirus infection rate hits 20K in Belarus


The Belarusian Health Ministry has published the updated information on the coronavirus situation on Telegram.

As of May 7, Belarusian health professionals have registered 20,168 persons infected with the novel coronavirus. According to the ministry, it is 8.7 per cent of more than 229,000 tests taken since the beginning of the epidemic in the country.

“For the entire period of the spread of the infection in the country, 116 patients who were previously tested positive for the coronavirus have died; they had chronic and co-existing illnesses,” the statement reads.

In the past 24 hours, 913 new cases have been confirmed, another four persons have passed away.

5,067 patients who were diagnosed with COVID-19 have already recovered.

Last Sunday, President Alyaksandr Lukashenka said that over 200 people in Belarusian hospitals were connected to mechanical lung ventilators due to ‘pneumonia’.
