Coordination Council urges Belarusians to bring peaceful revolution to fruition

The Coordination Council of the opposition has issued an appeal in connection with the brutal actions of the security forces on October 11 and 12.

As noted in the statement, on October 11 and 12, “the authorities once again used brutal methods of reprisal against the participants in the peaceful processions, including water cannons, stun grenades, tear gas sprays, brutal beatings and the capture of citizens.”

“The yesterday’s brutality from the security forces against the march of peaceful pensioners looks especially awful,” the Coordination Council emphasizes.

The Coordination Council calls on the authorities to stop the escalation of violence, to investigate the facts of brutal actions of the security forces and to release political prisoners.

“Remember, violence does not solve any problems and directly paves the way for unleashing a civil war in the country. We urge the authorities to sit down at the negotiating table and immediately start a dialogue to find ways out of the acute political crisis,” the statement says.

The Coordination Council has also called on the security forces not to follow orders aimed at beating and repressing peaceful demonstrators and not becoming complicit in crimes.

“We call on the Belarusian society, the entire Belarusian people to show patience and endurance, to bring our peaceful revolution to fruition. In no case should we succumb to provocations and respond to cruelty with cruelty,” the Coordination Council emphasizes.
