Brigitte Bardot urges Alyaksandr Lukashenka to stand up for stray animals

Prominent French actress Brigitte Bardot has asked Belarusian president Alyaksandr Lukashenka to protect stray animals. Her open letter was published on Brigitte Bardot Foundation website.

“Animals are abused and die agonizing death. Poisoned baits are used to kill them; people shoot them down, sometimes in the presence of children, at the irrational and inhuman order of officials and special services,” the actress says in her letter.

According to Brigitte Bardot, such things tarnish the image of Belarus in Europe. The French star urges Alyaksandr Lukashenka to transfer funds allocated for trapping animals to special shelters, as well as use them for sterilizing stray animals. She also calls the Belarusian authorities to immediately adopt the law which would provide for severe penalties for cruelty to animals.
