The Belarusian Foreign Ministry has informed Russia’s Embassy of the detention of three Russian citizens by the State Security Committee (KGB).
The detainees are suspected of bribery (Art. 431-2 of the Criminal Code). The ministry failed to specify whether the cases were linked to the recent high-profile arrests in Minsk.
The diplomats have sent a request to the Belarusian authorities asking to allow consular officers to see the Russian citizens. They decided not to make the names of the detainees public.
“We do not know where or in what field they work. To get the facts straight, we have requested for consular access,” the press service of the diplomatic mission told belsat.eu.
As reported earlier, the Investigative Department of the Belarusian KGB filed bribery chargesagainst Andrey Utsyuryn, Deputy State Secretary of the Security Council of Belarus and the former head of Alyaksandr Lukashenka’s guard. According to them, Utsyuryn was detained while receiving $ 148,600 from ‘a representative of the Russian company G. for helping to promote its interests in the Republic of Belarus.
The KGB also mentioned the case of a Russian citizen K., who was detained when giving a bribe to Syarhei Sivadzedau, CEO of the Belarusian national telecomunications company.
