Mostly senior citizens have come to the central square of Brest to mark the anniversary of what they call The Great October Revolution.
37-year-old Viktar Ivanou, a former first secretary of the Brest Regional Committee of the Belarusian Republican Youth Union, seems to have been the only exception.
This year, Mr Ivanou has been promoted – now he heads The Centre for Youth Creativity. Today he has led the group of participants and brought a basket of flowers. Some people were carrying red Soviet flags, carnations and portraits of Lenin and Stalin.
Belarus is the only post-Soviet country where November, 7 is a public holiday.
